The third eye chakra is the sixth chakra in the human body’s chakra system and needless to say, it is among the mysterious ones. It is called Ajna in Sanskrit and is associated with the act of “seeing”. This is not the normal seeing through your eyes that you are used to. It means a sense of perception that surpasses your five senses. Once again, it is a chakra that is associated with the metaphysical aspect of nature and reality itself.

Ajna

The third eye chakra is located at the center of your forehead. It gets its name from the third eye of the Hindu god of destruction, Shiva. For spiritual seekers, this chakra is of immense significance. It brings them face to face with the deeper truth of reality. In essence, it helps them experience the universal energy or consciousness that permeates the entirety of reality.

What It Governs

When it comes to the physical body, the third eye chakra governs your pituitary gland, eyes, head, and lower part of the brain. Therefore, if your third eye chakra is blocked, you may experience physical issues like headaches, lapses in concentration, confusion, hearing problems, issues with sight, etc.

This chakra also governs your intuition, perception, imagination, consciousness, clarity, wisdom, etc. So, if your third eye chakra is blocked, you may find it difficult to listen to your gut feeling. Also, you may not be aware of your surroundings and how you should act in any given situation. Your connection with reality may also get affected due to this.

Characteristics of The Third Eye Chakra

This chakra is usually symbolized with the color indigo that represents wisdom, knowledge, intuition, clarity, and perception. It is said that this color is the doorway to the divine. So, if you can gain mastery over the third eye chakra, you can truly witness oneness with everything around you. That is essentially like becoming one with the divine.

The third eye chakra is often depicted by a lotus with two petals. The mantra that is linked to this chakra is “Om”, which means “I see.”

One crucial aspect of the third eye chakra is that it enhances your perception but in a non-judgmental manner. It makes you capable of seeing everything just the way it is. There are no feelings or thoughts attached to it. This initiates a sense of calm and peace as you’ve never experienced before. Yogis, sages, spiritual masters, and the likes all seek this state of being.
